The 18 Spots Almost Every House Cleaner Skips

Most homes look clean from standing height. Grab your phone flashlight and spend ten minutes checking the places that don't — then get an honest read on whether you need a deep clean or just a better recurring plan.

What Most House Cleaners Don't Clean

Nothing on this list is exotic. These are ordinary spots that get skipped because they take an extra step: crouching, reaching, or sliding something out of the way. The spots that sit above or below eye level, or behind something that has to be moved: fan blade tops, cabinet tops, window tracks, fridge door seals, the floor behind the toilet, and the counter under small appliances.

Missing them once doesn't matter. Missing them every visit for a year is how a home that's "cleaned every two weeks" still ends up with grey dust on the door tops and a dark line in the shower grout.

Standard Clean vs. Deep Clean: What's Actually Different

A standard clean covers the surfaces you see and use every day. A deep clean includes all of that, plus baseboards, interior windows, grout, vents, light fixtures, cabinet fronts, and behind and under appliances. Most of the 18 spots in this audit fall into that second group. You can see every item side by side in the standard vs. deep clean comparison.

How Often These Spots Need Attention

Not everything needs cleaning every week. Switch plates, door frames, and appliance bases collect grime from daily use and are worth touching every visit. Fan blades, blinds, cabinet tops, and vent grilles build up slowly and do fine every month or two. Grout and caulk seams need regular attention to stay clean, and a thorough scrub when they've darkened.

For most homes with regular recurring service, once or twice a year is enough. Without recurring service, or with pets and kids, every few months keeps buildup from settling in.

What to Do With Your Results

If you found only a few spots, your current routine is working — keep it, and point those spots out to whoever cleans. If you found more than a handful of spots in the audit, usually yes. A deep clean resets the detail work once, so a recurring clean can keep it there instead of chasing it. If most of the list lit up, start with a reset before worrying about upkeep.

Either way, the results are yours to keep. You don't have to hire anyone to use them, and the walkthrough below works whether or not you ever call.
